First round (leg6) of the Race to Nigeria masters (Pro/Am) tournament

6th leg race to Nigeria masters: J. Onjefu for the first time takes Leads in 1st day of the tournament.

It’s is another exciting season of The Race to Nigeria Masters; Leg 6. In the beautiful city of Owerri with 39°C weather condition, players are on it again; off course on the struggle to subdue the luscious Arsenal Golf Course.

Coming first place on the leaderboard with a 1 under Course par (71) is L. Onjefu. He started his round with a birdie in 1st, 2nd hole, par in 3rd, 4th, 5th, birdie in 6th, bogey in 7th hole and eventually finishing hole 8th and 9th with a par to make 37. With a birdie in 10th, 12th, 15th & 16th, a birdie in hole 14th and the remaining holes in the back 9 being a par, saw him coming in with 34, finishing the round with an under course par (71).

 

In a media chat with the africantour correspondent, Onjefu said “I am very excited that after a while of winning, I finally did today and I promise to outdo myself in subsequent rounds of this tournament”.

In second position with 4 scores different is U. Anoruo who played 3 over par (75). He played 3 bogeys, 4 birdies and 11 par.

​

“This was a dreadfully disappointing way to start the tournament but tomorrow is another hopeful day, we go hard on the course”, Anoruo said in a media chat.

​

The rest of the players are hopeful that they play better in subsequent rounds and make it to the top of the board.
